What Are The Signs That Your Home Is Infested With Bed Bugs?
Unexplained Bites: Bed bug bites are not just itchy; they are often arranged in a distinctive pattern. Look for clusters or rows of red, swollen bites on exposed skin areas. If you notice these, especially after waking up, it’s time for a closer inspection.
Distinctive Odor: Bed bugs emit a sweet, musty odor. While individual odors can vary, a strong, unpleasant scent in your bedroom or other affected areas may signal a significant bed bug pest control. Trust your sense of smell—it might be your first clue.
Visible Bed Bug Casings: Bed bugs shed their exoskeletons as they grow. These translucent casings can often be found in and around their hiding spots. Check seams, folds, and crevices in your mattress, as well as cracks in furniture, for these remnants.
Dark Spots on Mattresses and Furniture: Bed bug fecal matter appears as small, dark spots on surfaces they frequent. Regularly inspect your mattress seams, headboard, and nearby furniture for these telltale signs, especially in areas where you suspect bed bug activity.

Our Bed Bug Extermination Checklist
- Strip all the beds and launder all sheets, pillowcases, mattress pads, blankets, etc. (or throw away if necessary)
- Remove EVERYTHING from bedroom closets, dresser drawers, nightstands, dressing tables, etc., and place in tightly sealable containers (totes, trash bags, etc.)
- Have all clothing and fabrics been laundered and dry-cleaned? **VERY IMPORTANT!!**
- Only do this after treatment if all laundered items can be stored off-site until after treatment. Do not leave laundered items in the home/apt before or during treatment.
- Remove drapes, curtains, valences, etc., and have them laundered. Again, wait to reintroduce any laundered items back into the property until after treatment!
- Remove toys, stuffed animals, and dolls; have them laundered, dry-cleaned, or replaced.
- Remove all pets and cages for the treatment time. Turn off fish tank pumps and air conditioning units, and cover fish tanks.
- Clean and organized. It’s time to throw away things you do not need/want. Discard cardboard boxes, shoe boxes, paper and plastic bags, old newspapers, stacks of magazines, and similar items in infested rooms.
- Vacuum all rooms! Especially where your wall meets the floor, box Box-springs, couches, chairs, and all similar items (both outside and inside, if possible), closets, closet-shelves (above and below), shoes, inside dresser drawers, and bedside side table drawers
- Vacuum bags are to be placed in a plastic bag, sealed tightly, marked “Bio-Hazard” or “Contains BEDBUGS,” and discarded.
